ASE’s STEM training programs are designed to motivate and engage such students for new kind of teaching environments; i.e. hands-on, learning-by-doing, and emphasis to improve overall student success and participation in classroom learning activities.
Alabama STEM Education's (ASE) "Raise the Bar" program provides the opportunity to underserved, underrepresented, low income middle & high school students, hands-on experience with science, technology, engineering, and math. It is 10-Week basic engineering and computer programming training curriculum which includes robotics. "Raise the Bar" curriculum covers a history of engineering disciplines and design and development process of engineering. Each topic will be supported with practical hands-on experiments and small projects. Phase II of the training places more emphases on computer programming using robotic car platforms with embedded computer onboards. Students will learn basic programming techniques on single board computer, and will be trained for basic robotic tasks, such as: reading and processing various sensors for avoiding collision, making decisions, steering the wheels, etc.. Course material will have advanced math problems related to each experiment and hands-on training.
